Let Advantage Do the work

In the Client/Server setting, the database does all of the work requested by its clients. The Advantage^TM Database Server receives the request for a database operation from the client, locates the database files on the server, process the database operation, then returns the results to the client.

This differs from MediSoft Advanced Multi-User. In the multi-user version, the workstations do all the work. A workstation sends the request for a database operation to the server (or the workstation that is the data host). All the data is sent to the requesting workstation, possibly including multiple index files and large parts of data files. That workstation processes the database operation, gets the results, then returns all the data back to the server.

Because MediSoft used the Advantage^TM Database Server, network traffic is decreased which, in turn, improves multi-user performance.

Using a client/server database has other advantages. Because the entire database is not being transferred over the network, there is less of a chance of the data being corrupted or lost. The Advantage Database Server integrity system ensures that database updates run to completion-it will not execute partial commands. The integrity of your data no longer depends on the stability of the workstations or the network.
